Run wildd for dyslexia

Run WILDD logoThe first annual Run WILDD for Dyslexia 5k/1m Run/Walk was held on June 6, 2010 at Quaker Steak and Lube in Middleton, Wisconsin. WILDD would like to extend a special thank you to the volunteers, corporate sponsors, and participants that made the day a resounding success.

Close to two hundred WILDD staff members, clients, families, and community members gathered to participate in the event, which benefited persons with dyslexia and other learning disabilities. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward scholarships for students who wish to attend WILDD.

After the run/walk, Anthony Pedriana, author of “Leaving Johnny Behind,” spoke. Pedriana’s book touches on issues such as disparities in literacy among different racial groups in the United States. Dr. Mark Seidenberg, a scientist at the University of Wisconsin’s Weisman Center, spoke about the leading research for the mechanisms underlying reading, how reading skills are acquired,  and the basis of understanding dyslexia. Madison’s own Wild Heart also gave a live musical performance. The band rocked the crowd with today’s hottest country hits. The five piece top 40 country band has been together for over 15 years and play venues all over Wisconsin.
